Card Feature: Aldric Soyhammer

You merely adopted the soy. He was born in it, molded by it. His name is Aldric and you don't want to mess with him, if you do, you will regret it.

Indeed, this is probably the strongest 8-mana card in the game. Our current meta has some big bombshell 9-mana finisher type cards like JuJu Winterspear, Gigaquakk, and of course Cyclonius - but the 8 mana spot is often left empty in decks.

Aldric demands to know why. Why aren't you running 8 energy cards? What's wrong with 8?

Hell, 8 is this author (Flux)'s lucky number. Why are we neglecting it?

Aldric's "Holy War" ability makes 8 a worthy slot in the curve of any Light deck: "While this card is on the field, every Light card on your field gains +4/+4 and Rush"

That means Aldric himself automatically becomes a 13/13 Rush creature as soon as he enters the battlefield. What's more, he buffs all of your other light creatures. Including The White Lily. That's right - the dinky little 0 energy card that players get when going second is technically of the Light element, so it gets the +4/+4 buff from Aldric.

So on turn 7, you can White Lily into Aldric Soyhammer and have both a 13/13 rush (soyhammer) and an untargetable 4/5 rush (white lily) at the same time. Did I mention you can do this on turn 7? It's a wild combo.

Another option is to wait for 9 mana, then play Aldric with a 1 mana companion. I recommend either Bookworm or Glowfruit.

This way your 1 mana creature will get buffed (and gain rush) alongside Aldric.

Aldric Soyhammer provdes one of the most explosive win conditions for aggro and midrange decks, and his potential extends to the future - who knows what kind of Soyhammer synergies might unfold in future sets?

One thing is for sure, no Champions collection is compete without a playset of Aldric Soyhammers.
